Pak All-Rounder Mohammad Hafeez Banned From Bowling in ECB Over For Illegal Bowling Action

Mumbai: Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been suspended from bowling in all competitions organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after being found illegal in his bowling action assessment.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the English Cricket Board (ECB), the assessment found that the player’s elbow extension exceeded 15 degrees for his off-spin delivery – the limit defined in the illegal bowling regulations.

The statement quoted Geo News as saying, the suspension of the off-spinner follows the procedure laid down in the ECB regulations for reviewing reported bowlers with a suspected illegal bowling action.

His bowling action was reported by on-field umpires against Somerset on August 30, following the Vitality Blast (T20) match between his county Middlesex.

In a statement released by Hafiz’s county team Middlesex, the Pakistani player has “accepted the verdict despite identifying procedural test defects, which have been accepted by the review committee”.

“I have received the ECB Bowling Review Group report on my bowling action. Despite identifying procedural test flaws that have been accepted by the review committee, as well as realizing the findings, possibly my reputation as a world-proven all-rounder Will be impressed, I accept the Bowling Review Group findings, “the statement read.

“As per ECB regulations, I am ready to appear for independent analysis at an ICC-accredited centre so that I become eligible to play in ECB-organised events,” he added.
