Pakistan Cricket Board Bans Umar Akmal For Three Years

Mumbai: Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has been banned from all types of cricket for three years on corruption charges by the Disciplinary Panel of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Judicial (retd) disciplinary panel chairman Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan announced the decision after a hearing on Monday.

PCB Media wrote on Twitter: “Omar Akmal gave a three-year ban on disciplinary panel chairman Justice (retd) Fazl-e-Meeran Chauhan from all cricket.”

Akmal was charged for two violations of Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti Corruption Code in two unrelated incidents. Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code reads: “Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in corrupt conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code.”

Akmal was provisionally suspended on 20 February and a notice of charge was issued on 17 March. The PCB formally accused two violations of its anti-corruption code on March 20 for two unrelated incidents.

His suspension came after alleged misconduct involving Umar Akmal during a fitness test. Akmal allegedly abused a staff member after a failed fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

After deciding that Akmal had not requested for a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal, the Pakistan Cricket Board had referred the matter to the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, former Lahore High Court Judge on April 9.
