PM Modi Slams Those who Damaged Public Property In UP During Anti-CAA Protests

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while protesting against the revised citizenship law in Uttar Pradesh, lashed out at those who damaged property, saying they should understand that rights and duties go hand in hand.

“They (the vandals) should ask themselves if this was right. What was done was not the use of their child? What happened to the common people and policemen who were injured?” Modi asked.

He said he wanted to tell those who damage public property that “those rights and duties should not be forgotten”.

More than 15 people were killed, 263 police personnel injured and state-owned property damaged during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in several Uttar Pradesh districts.

Modi was addressing a gathering after unveiling the statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Lok Bhavan here on the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister. He also laid the foundation stone of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University in the capital of Uttar Pradesh.

On the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, Modi said that granting citizenship to people who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to “save the dignity of their daughters” was another problem that 130 crore Indians found.

“With this confidence, India is entering a new decade. Whatever remains to be done, all Indians are trying to find a solution to it,” he said.

However, the big challenge maybe, “It is in our nature to challenge the challenge”. The Prime Minister said that the road map for better health care was based on four points which are preventive health care, affordable health care, supply-side interventions and mission-mode interventions.

He also threw light on his government’s plans in this direction. On the medical university, Modi said that it would provide affiliation to government, semi-government and private colleges, and would help improve the quality of medical education in Uttar Pradesh.
