Pregnant Woman Goes Into Labour On Board Stalled Mahalaxmi Express

Mumbai: Mahalaxmi Express train was stuck in floodwaters at Vangani for around 18 hours, on Saturday. A nine-month pregnant woman went into labour in the stranded Mahalaxmi Express train.

The woman with her relatives was in D1 bogey of the train. After she went into labour her relatives started panicking. They sent out urgent appeals to seek help and to rush her to the hospital. The woman, identified as Reshma Kamble, was travelling from Mumbai to Kolhapur for the delivery of her child but was caught in Thane floodwaters since Friday evening.

The Indian Army, Indian Air Forces and Indian Navy and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have launched one of the biggest operations to rescue approximately 1,050 passengers stranded on the train with around 3-5 feet water on all sides.

Guardian Minister of Thane, Eknath Gaikwad rushed to Badlapur to take stock of the rescue operations and said along with the defence and NDRF, all surrounding towns, cities and villages have also sent Vines their rescue teams to help the passengers.
