Rahul Dravid Appointed As Team India Head Coach,To Take Charge From New Zealand Series

Mumbai: Former India captain Rahul Dravid has been officially appointed as the head coach of Team India on Wednesday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that batsman Ravi Shastri will be replaced as the new head coach of the Virat Kohli-led side.

Dravid was appointed the head coach of the Indian cricket team by the Cricket Advisory Committee of Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh.

Dravid is set to take over as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team from the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

Earlier, the BCCI had invited applications for the coveted post on October 26 to name the successor of the current head coach – Shastri. Under Shastri’s memorable coaching stint, the Kohli-led side became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia (2018–19).

“The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of India’s senior men team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has also served Indian cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction,” BCCI president Ganguly said.

The side coached by Shastri also eliminated New Zealand in all 5 T20Is of the 2020 bilateral series. Under Shastri’s guidance, the Kohli-led side made it to the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2019.

Shastri’s Team India, which was in the final in the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship, also won all their seven Test series at home.
