Rahul Gandhi Apologizes To The Supreme Court For ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ Row

Mumbai: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday incorrectly apologized to the Supreme Court for his former ‘chowkidar chor hai’, commented on it to be blamed for the top court and demanded to shut down the contempt proceedings against him.

Rahul Gandhi filed a three-page affidavit seeking “unconditional apology”. In the three major affidavits, the Congress chief said that he holds “highest honour and respect” in the Supreme Court, and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi sought closure of the criminal contempt proceedings filed against him.

Gandhi said in his affidavit, “The defendant (Rahul Gandhi) unconditionally apologizes to this court.” The Supreme Court is going to hear the case on Friday.

Gandhi’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi offered to apologize on behalf of his client one day after the Congress president responded to the notice of the apex court on this issue, in which he expressed regret only for the comment. In his affidavit, Gandhi said that he had commented on “heat of campaign” and his comment was not in any way to scandal in the court.

Earlier, the bench had given Congress President Rahul Gandhi the time till May 6 to uphold the remarks made by the top court on April 10 for the order of the Rafael case.
