Mumbai: The reservation amendment bill is expected by the Union home minister Amit Shah to be presented in the 17th Lok Sabha. Shah will also talk about the importance of the bill, which was first implemented as an ordinance.

Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet had earlier approved the deck for approval of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2019. It was approved by President Ram Nath Kovind too.

It provides for the reservation of people living in areas adjacent to the International Border in the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, which is equal to those living in areas adjacent to the Line of Actual Control (LOC). The aim of the bill is to replace the ordinance in Jammu and Kashmir for providing 10% reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS).

“The State Council for Administrative (SAC), which was held here under the chairmanship of Governor Satya Pal Malik, to include the provisions for the implementation of the 103rd Amendment of the Indian Constitution, ‘Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019’ Approved, “said an official spokesman.

Earlier on June 20, the Jammu and Kashmir government had approved the reservation (second amendment) bill, including the 103rd amendment of the Indian Constitution, to provide 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections in the jobs and educational institutions.

For the implementation of the 103rd Amendment of the Constitution of India to provide 10 per cent reservation, an amendment was required in the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004.
