Security Raised Ahead Of India Vs South Africa Second T20 In Mohali

Mumbai: After Chandigarh poice denied security to members of the Indian cricket team, due to the payment issue of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Mohali police is set to deploy around 1600 policemen for the second T20I on Wednesday. It will be a three-tier security system in and around PCA Stadium in Mohali, under which all roads leading to the stadium will be closed at 11 am.

Speaking with Times Of India, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kuldeep Singh Chahal said, “There will be tight security during the match. Citizens have been issued passes to cross the nakas.”

He further elaborated the security plan, suggesting that a total of 25 blocks were put in place to ensure foolproof security for the match.

“We will put 25 blocks on the connectivity roads for the PCA, which will comprise 11 Superintendent of Police level officers, 25 sub-superintendents, 160 sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors as well as head constables and constables. Punjab Police Commando and EPR. The teams will also provide assistance to the Mohali police.”

Singh also revealed that around 1,600 police personnel would be involved in the total security, while 600 to 700 policemen from outside districts would be involved.

“The entire stadium complex is divided into six sectors and outside is divided into six sectors. A senior police officer will be on duty in each sector,” the SSP said.

In addition to this, about 120 CCTV cameras have already been installed in the area to help in police surveillance in the area. Security personnel will also be deployed above the surrounding buildings so that they can keep an eye on the area. They will also be equipped with a variety of devices such as binoculars, wireless telephones, and sophisticated weapons for effective work.
