Tough To Move On From WC But Series Win vs Aus Was Big Boost: SKY

Mumbai: India stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav said World Cup final defeat is tough to move on from but the recent T20I series win over Australia was a “big boost” for the team.

Before going to South Africa, India had won the five-match series 4-1 at home against Australia.

“The World Cup loss was disappointing, and getting over it has proven to be difficult. On the eve of the opening Twenty20 match against South Africa, Suryakumar stated, “But even though it came in a different format, the series win against Australia was a big boost.”

In lieu of the injured Hardik Pandya, captain Suryakumar expressed his satisfaction with India’s performance against Australia and urged his squad to play “fearless cricket” in the forthcoming three-match T20 series against the Proteas.

“We must play daring cricket against South Africa, just as the players did when they faced Australia, raising their hands in the process. “I instructed the players to follow their routine exactly as they do in franchise cricket,” he remarked.

Suryakumar claimed that they had focused on it internally but did not reveal India’s lineup for the first game of the tour.

“We’ve thought of the combo. We have an idea of who will open tomorrow and may make a final decision following today’s practice. Indeed, we have enough possibilities for sixth bowlers in this lineup to go with,” he stated.

The 33-year-old said he enjoyed captaining the team.

“I am enjoying it. It is all about keeping the players together and this is a fine group of players.”
