Two Officers Suspended, Allegedly On The Possibility Of A Bribe

Mumbai: A senior inspector from Andheri police station was suspended on Sunday after he was caught on video in a sting operation conducted by a bar owner. A constable, the inspector’s orderly, was also suspended in connection with the case.

According to sources in the police department, the bar owner recorded the video – which allegedly suggested the possibility of a bribe – during a conversation with Inspector Lalasaheb Shetye. The clip was brought to the notice of senior police officials and an inquiry was launched. After the inquiry, Manoj Sharma, regional additional commissioner of the western region, ordered the suspension.

This is the second time that police officials have been suspended this month. On August 9, the Mumbai police commissioner suspended a police inspector and assistant inspector attached with the Economic Offences Wing, which investigates white-collar crimes. They were suspended for allegedly releasing a former Dawood aide, Sohail Bhamla, who was detained at Mumbai international airport after he arrived from Dubai.
