Under 2% Of India’s Population Infected With COVID-19, 98% Still Vulnerable: Govt

Mumbai: The Centre has said that India’s been able to ensure that only 1.8% of the total population was infected with COVID-19.

He said, “The recovery rate on May 3 was 81.7 per cent, which has now increased to 85.6 per cent. Meanwhile, 4,22,436 recoveries have been recorded in the last 24 hours, which is the highest for the country.”

Agarwal also confirmed that currently, the positivity rate of the case in the country is 14.10 per cent.

Lav Aggarwal said that India has recorded more than 2.63 lakh new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is 27 per cent less than the highest peak of single-day cases recorded in the country on May 7 (4.14 lakh), said Lav Agarwal.

“1.8 per cent of the total population of India has been affected by the disease so far. We have been able to contain the spread of the infection to under 2 per cent of the population,” stated the Health Ministry.

In comparison, 10.1% population was infected in the US, 7.3% in Brazil, 9% in France, 3.4% in Russia and 7.4% in Italy, Healthy Ministry’s Lav Agarwal said.

About 8 states have more than 1 lakh active cases, 10 states have more than 50,000 but less than 1,00,00 active cases and 18 states now have less than 50,000 active cases.
