Union Minister Smriti Irani Recevies Longest Applause, She Takes Oath As LS Member

Mumbai: Union Minister Smriti Irani who defeated Congres president Rahul Gandhi took oath today as Lok Sabha Member.

Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi by a margin of over 55,000 votes.

Meanwhile, it is noticed that while she took oath received the longest applause from other union ministers and MPs were seen enthusiastically thumping the desk for a long time.

As soon as she was called to take the oath, members of the ruling BJP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, other Union ministers and MPs, enthusiastically thumping at the desk for a long time.
Rahul Gandhi was not present in the House at that time.

Before taking oath she tweeted saying, I am happy that this new house has a high number of women MPs. My experience also suggests that when the Parliament functions smoothly, we are able to fulfil numerous aspirations of the people of India: PM @narendramodi
