Unprecedented Violence Unleashed By Goons With Active Abetment of Modi Govt Unacceptable, Says Sonia Gandhi

Gandhi said that students and youth "need affordable education, a worthy job, a promising future and the right to participate in our thriving democracy

Mumbai: Seeking an independent judicial inquiry into the violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Monday said that “horrifying and unprecedented” violence unleashed by goons with “active abetment of the ruling Modi government is deplorable and unacceptable.”

Gandhi said in a statement, “The voices of India’s youth and students are being mocked every day. With the active abduction of the ruling Modi government, horrific and unprecedented violence has been perpetrated on the youth of India by goons,” abusive and unacceptable.

Speaking about various incidents on the campuses of universities and colleges, Sonia alleged that yesterday’s incident was an attempt to suppress the voice of discontent.

“Every day campuses and colleges are raided all over India, lumpen elements with the support of either the police or the BJP government. A bone-chilling attack on students and teachers in JNU, Delhi tomorrow, will be more harsh for the government Will go. Tame every voice of disagreement, “she said.

Gandhi said that students and youth “need affordable education, a worthy job, a promising future and the right to participate in our thriving democracy.”

She said, “Sadly, the Modi government strives to fulfil and support all these aspirations. The entire Congress party stands in solidarity with the youth and students of India. We strongly support the violence in JNU sponsored yesterday And demand an independent judicial inquiry. ”

On Sunday evening, more than 30 students, including JNUSU President Aish Ghosh, were injured and were taken to AIIMS Trauma Center after a masked mob entered JNU and they and professors were attacked with sticks and sticks.

The JNU administration and political leaders, while cutting across political lines, had condemned the attack on the students and urged the police to take action against the culprits.
