US Includes $14 Billion For War-Hit Ukraine In $1.5 Trillion Spending Bill

Mumbai: The US Congress has passed a $1.5 trillion spending bill, including almost $14 billion in humanitarian and military aid to war-hit Ukraine.

Lawmakers were facing the latest in a series of shutdowns, with government funding due to expire at midnight on Friday, meaning thousands of workers would have been sent home without pay.

With the deadline looming, senators in the legislative body’s upper house followed their House of Representatives colleagues, who on Wednesday flagged a $1.5 trillion package.

“We are keeping our promise to support Ukraine as they fight for their lives against the evil Vladimir Putin,” Senate Democrats leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

“With nearly $14 billion in emergency aid, Congress will approve more than double what the administration originally requested.”
