Voice Call, SMS Services To Be Restored For Prepaid Users Across J&K

Mumbai: Voice call and SMS facilities will be restored for prepaid mobile users in Jammu and Kashmir, Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal said on Saturday.

Kansal said that 2G mobile data on postpaid mobiles to access whitelisted websites would be allowed in all 10 districts of Bandipora in Jammu and Kupwara, Kashmir divisions. Services have been suspended for about five months.

The principal secretary said that the decision has been taken after “careful review”.

The decisions came in a day on which 36 Union ministers are scheduled to visit the newly created union territory as part of a large-scale outreach program, five months after it snatched away the state’s special status Went and was divided into about 49 million. Due to inclement weather, flights carrying Union ministers have been diverted.

The valley has been under strict communication lockdown since the announcement of the cancellation of its special status in August. While the connection is being restored phase-wise, the detained local leaders are also being released at that time.
