Western Railway Collects ₹8.83L Fine In Six Days Over No Masks In Maha

Mumbai: Western Railway collected a total fine of ₹8,83,100 from March 1-6 from people who were travelling without face masks in Maharashtra, including Mumbai suburban trains.

“A sum of Rs 8,83,100 was collected in the form of a fine from people not wearing masks from 1st March till 6th March,” WR officials told news agency ANI.

Earlier in February, in a joint effort with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Western Railway imposed a total fine of Rs 5.97 lakh.

It comes in cases of COVID-19 in Maharashtra. The state health minister said that after reporting more than 10,000 new coronavirus-positive cases on two consecutive days, Maharashtra added 11,141 new infections, causing 22,19,727 deaths, while 38 people died. On Friday and Saturday, the state registered 10,216 and 10,187 cases respectively.

The department said that against 11,141 new infections during the day, 6,013 people were discharged, taking the count of recoveries in Maharashtra to 20,68,044, the department said, the case recovery rate in the state is now 93.17 per cent and the death rate is 2.36 per cent.
