“When It Comes To Anti-Terrorist Battles, Then We Must Rise Above Party Politics,” : Amit Shah

Mumbai: Home Minister Amit Shah lambasted over terrorism while speaking in Lok Sabha today.

He addressed the Lower House over objections raised by the opposition against the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill.

As soon as the debate on the anti-terrorism bill came up, Amit Shah insisted that its main objective was to stop terrorism. While defending the bill, Shah argued that there are adequate safeguards to ensure that the act is not misused.

“A terrorist has violence in their mentality, it’s not about how many terrorist organisations are banned. Terrorists have to be stopped to stop terrorism in the world,” FirstPost quoted Shah as saying.

Shah also said that it is time to rise above party politics because the need to fight terrorism is enormous. “I want to repeat that the law was brought by the UPA, and if the federal structure has worsened, then the UPA has spoiled it. When it comes to anti-terrorist battles, then we must rise above party politics.”

Shah added, “When you question us you don’t see who brought the law & amendments, who made it stringent. It was brought when you were in power, what you did then was right & what I’m doing now is also right.”

Specifically, this bill empowers the government to nominate the government as terrorists, and the DG gave the authority to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to grant the property for seizure or attachment of property when investigated by the agency. Illegal Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill, 2019 was passed on Tuesday by the Minister of State for Home (MoS) in the Lok Sabha and it was considered for Home G Kishan Reddy.
