Widow Raped By 8 People At Different Locations In Pune, 5 Arrested So Far

Mumbai: A woman from Shirur in the Pune district was allegedly raped by eight people in different locations and at different times. After the incident came to light, an FIR was lodged at Shirur police station. The accused have been charged under sections 323, 376(2), 376(d) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Inspector Sureshkumar Raut, he had received information that a widow was being sexually abused by several men. Raut said that he had sent a team from the Nirbhaya unit to meet the victim. Raut said the squad had contacted the victim for more details.

Inspector Sureshkumar Raut told The Indian Express, “It was known that she was a widow and was harming her position, with some people accompanying her at different places and at different times between April and May 2021. The victim wanted to file a complaint but did not have proper knowledge and support.”

Suresh Kumar Raut also said that so far five suspects have been arrested and they have been kept in police custody for seven days by a judge. The inspector said that three more suspects are being sought and further investigation is on.

The eight accused have been identified as Molly Pawar, Kalu Walunj, Vitthal Kale, Razak Pathan, Pappu Gaikwad, Akash Gaikwad, Navnath Walunj and Sandeep Walunj.

The accused allegedly threatened to kill the woman and forced physical contact with her, according to police.

The police also said that the victim has a son and a daughter who live with a family member.
