In the second set, Cheung tried to pull the match away from Sindhu as expected, but the Indian showed her deceit and scored crucial points to win the straight-sets win. Sindhu advanced to the knockout rounds.
It was the second consecutive win for PV Sindhu who had earlier on Sunday started her Tokyo campaign with a 21-7, 21-10 win over Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel. The entire match lasted just 28 minutes.
