World Number One Archer Deepika Kumari Reaches Quarter-Finals At Tokyo Olympics

Mumbai: India’s world number one archer Deepika Kumari has qualified for the quarter-finals of the women’s archery event at the Tokyo Olympics.

Deepika Kumari beat ROC’s Ksenia Perova, a two-time Olympic silver medallist, 6-5 in a shoot-off in the Round of 16.

Both the archers started the match well with 9, but the Indian’s second arrow was far from perfect. Perova, who was under pressure at the time, landed on 7 as Dipika took two points from 28-25.

Ksenia Perova returned in the next set. Deepika has taken the lead by securing the third position.

The fourth goal was tied with both archers, shooting 26. With her back against the wall, the Russian reacted well in the decider and took the match to a shoot-off.

Ksenia started the shoot-off with a poor 7 to which the Indian replied with a 10 and ended the match.

With this win, Deepika will either face San An of South Korea or Japan’s Ren Hayakawa in the quarterfinals.
