25-Year-Old Engineer Commits Suicide On Being Harassed For His Sexuality

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a man committed suicide by injecting himself with poison. Aniket Patil, 25, was an Engineer and MBA graduate. He claimed in his suicide note that he was mocked over his sexuality by his colleagues and bosses. The Powai police have registered a complaint against four people.

After his death, his body was sent for post-mortem and the cause of his death was revealed. It was initially registered as accidental death and his family took his body for the last rites to Jalgaon, their hometown.

Subsequently, his family took his belongings back with them to Jalgaon. While going through his stuff, they found a three-page suicide note indicating that he was harassed at work for being gay. He stated clearly that he was taunted and teased. Three days before taking the extreme step, he told his mother that he wanted to quit his job.

He was fed up of the ugly comments that were put his way.

His family, however, claimed that he was not gay. He was “simple and religious” and that they were looking for a bride for him.

“We have registered an FIR and are investigating. We will take the necessary action after that,” a police officer said.
