5 Women Beat Up By Locals Over Child-lifting Rumors In Uttar Pradesh

Mumbai: In Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district on Monday, 5 Women were beaten by the locals as they were found to be suspicious of being child-lifters.

As per superintendent of police Ajay Kumar Pandey, the police received the information about five women being caught by the locals. When the police reached the spot they were informed that those women were not from the village; they were outsiders.

They came to the place in order to sell ropes, toys, and other products. Very soon a rumor was spread in the locality that the women were child-lifters. This made people in the village conscious. They gathered together cornering the women. Some of the locals even beat them up.

A case has been registered after taking the statements from the women. The four people who were caught in video footage while beating the women are now arrested. On the basis of the footage, more arrests will take place, said police.

One of the five women said, “ We belong to Gujarat, we came here for our business. But the locals spread the rumors and started beating us. We are not child-lifters.”
