Assam CM Launches Khelo India Youth Games 2020 Torch Relay

Mumbai: In a recent development, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 torch relay here on Sunday.

The torch will be taken to all district headquarters to support the people for the success of the third Khelo India Youth Games 2020, which will start here from January 10 next year.

During the ceremony held at the Sirjasai Sports Complex, the Chief Minister presented cash prizes to the medal winners of the South Asian Games 2019-2020 to be held in Kathmandu. He also provided cash incentives to medal winners under the Integrated Sports Policy of the Government of Assam.

Sonowal presented cash awards of Rs. 50,000 to the medal winners from Assam Olympic Association. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized his government’s commitment to promoting sports culture in the state.

He also said that the government is preparing a comprehensive roadmap using education, culture and sports as a cornerstone for the growth and development of human resources in the state.

The Chief Minister said that an ideal balance between education, culture and sports will be a multiplier for the development of the state.

Sonowal said that there are many aspects of the game and underlined that with extreme concentration and dedication, a player can realize the inherent beauty of the game. He called for hard work and praised the state for participating in the India Youth Games 2020, which played 633 players from Assam.

The Chief Minister appealed to the athletes of the state to be dedicated, disciplined and successful in national and international sporting events. He also said that the state government is always with the players and incentives will be announced for those who perform well in various competitions.
