Mumbai: Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been fined 15 per cent of the match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third ODI of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League series against Sri Lanka in Dhaka.

“In addition, a demerit mark has been added to Tamim’s disciplinary record, for which it was the first offence in a period of 24 months,” the statement said.

The Bangladesh captain admitted the offence and accepted the ban proposed by ICC match referee Namur Rashid and there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charges were laid by on-field umpires Sharafuddaula Ibne Shahid and Tanveer Ahmed, third umpire Ghazi Sohail and fourth official Masoodur Rahman.

According to the ICC, Level 1 violations include a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fees, and one or two demerit points.

Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 97 runs in the dead rubber to claim their first World Cup Super League points. But the hosts took the ODI series 2-1 after failing to secure a win.
