Mumbai: The BCCI, during its Special General Meeting (SGM), decided that the remaining matches of IPL 2021 will take place in the UAE. As per a statement, the BCCI took the decision considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year. The decision was taken at a Special General Meeting (SGM) held virtually, where members unanimously agreed to resume IPL,” the BCCI said.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said, “IPL has been moved to UAE for this season.”

Speaking to ANI, a source aware of the developments at the meeting had said that the BCCI will host the IPL in the UAE with the aim of having a window of 25 days to complete the 14th edition of the league.

“There have been talks with Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and they are happy to host the remaining IPL in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi as last time. BCCI will now talk to foreign boards to decide on availability. Foreign players. While the Australian player may be available, there are some questions on the availability of England and New Zealand players, we will see how it works. We are looking at a 25-day window and it is on, “the source said.

The T20 World Cup is expected to start in mid-October (the date is yet to be decided), for which the BCCI has about a month from 14 September to 15 October to complete the IPL.

As stated in recent weeks, the move is on the expected lines.

With the decision of whether India should have a T20 World Cup on 1 June in October-November, the BCCI has decided to request more time from the governing body on the matter. Reports suggest that the BCCI is ready to seek a one-month extension on the matter.

“The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021,” the statement read.
