BCCI Advised Team India Players To Avoid Going To Wimbledon, Euro During Break: Reports

However, BCCI sources claimed that the player in question is wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant

Mumbai: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had advised Team India players to avoid going to Wimbledon and Euro Championships in England during their 20-day break, PTI reported.

Shah told them to avoid crowded places as Covishield, the vaccine administered to the team, only provided protection and not full immunity

The team is scheduled to play again in the Bio Bubble in Durham ahead of the Test series against England next month. The players were given a break after the World Test Championship against New Zealand, which the team lost last month.

“Yes, a player has tested positive, but he is in isolation for the last eight days. He was not staying with the team in any hotel, so no other player has been affected. But I cannot name his name. Players BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told PTI on Thursday.

Shukla said, ‘So far no other player’s test has come positive. You should also know that our secretary Jay Shah has written a letter to all the players to maintain the protocol.

However, BCCI sources claimed that the player in question is wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.

“He is in quarantine with an acquaintance and will not travel to Durham with the team on Thursday,” a BCCI source said.

He is believed to be suffering from the delta variant which is causing the increasing number of cases in England.

The Indian team is due to take on England in a five-match Test series starting August 4.
