Covishield To Be Available For Rs 200/vial, Serum Institute to Get Purchase Order Today

Mumbai: As soon as the COVID-19 vaccination campaign started in India, Serum Institute of India (SII) officials confirmed that it had received a purchase order for the vaccine Covishield from the central government.

The vaccine will be available at a price of Rs 200 per vial, SII officials were quoted by news agency ANI.

The price of each vial of Covishield has been kept at Rs 200. A few million doses of Covishield are supplied every week. 11 million doses can be supplied in the initial lot and the export of the special vaccine is likely to begin after January 16.

The price of Rs 200 has been fixed for the first 100 million doses.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), on January 5, announced the approval of two vaccines — Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield manufactured by SII and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin — against coronavirus infection for restricted emergency use.
