The event was confirmed by the IOC when the body for the event and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday agreed to restart the Tokyo Olympics in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tokyo Olympics will now take place next year. The IOC, however, stated that the original name of Tokyo 2020 will remain intact despite the fact that it will be next year.

The Tokyo Olympic Games were to be held from 24 July to 9 August, while the Paralympic Games were to be held from 25 August to 6 September.
