Five New COVID-19 Cases In Odisha; Total Count 147

Mumbai: Officials said two and five people with recent travel history in Tamil Nadu tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 147.

The Bolangir district in the western part of Odisha, hitherto untouched by the novel coronavirus, reported two COVID-19 cases. A senior official said that both had returned from Tamil Nadu.

Officials said that two other new patients have been detected in the COVID-19 hotspot Jajpur district, while recently tested positive in Balasore district, with travel history for Kolkata.

The patients from Jajpur were identified as a 75-year-old woman from Katikati and a 55-year-old man from Birnpur. Katikati and Birajpur are areas where aggressive monitoring and contact tracing with largest testing is going on.

A public relations department official said that two cases in Bolangir, found in Lekharia village, belonged to men between the ages of 22 and 18 who have initiated contact and follow-up action in the area.

The total number of cases in the state has increased to 147, of which 105 are active and 41 have been cured and one has died due to illness.

Out of a total of 147 COVID-19 cases, Bhubaneswar tops the list with 47, including 38 in Jajpur, 20 in Balasore district, 19 in Bhadrak district, 10 in Sundargarh district, two in Kendrapara, Kalahandi and Bolangir districts.

There are two cases. In the districts of Cuttack, Puri, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Koraput.
