Hard Brexit A Matter of Concern for Ireland: PM Leo Varadkar

Mumbai: According to the Prime minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, if the hard Brexit takes place, it would raise an issue of unification of Ireland. The British ruled Northern Ireland and Scotland might have issues while the UK’s exit from the EU. According to hard Brexit policy, the UK will not only have to leave the EU but it’s a single market as well. And this will undermine other countries that will make an exit along with the British.

Due to his comments on Brexit, the strong pro-British party called the Democratic Unionist Party member, Ian Paisley refuted by saying that Ireland’s government language was becoming unhelpful and unnecessarily arrogant.

Varadkar also said that the hard Brexit can undermine the position of Scotland in the united kingdoms. At a political event when asked about any plans to unite Ireland with Northern Ireland, the prime minister said there were no plans yet. He also added that if hard Brexit happens those questions do arise.

“If British takes away Northern Ireland from EU against the wishes of the people, takes away their European citizenship and undermines the Good Friday agreement, in doing so those questions will arise. Whether we like it or not.” Mr Varadkar said.

In 2016, according to the reports, 56 per cent of people in Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU. Also, voters 62 per cent voters of Scotland had voted against Brexit. Which can also ignite the need amongst Scotland to push for independence.

He also suggested that, if the hard Brexit happens Ireland will have to be prepared with a plan.
