His Sixes In Last Over Were Of No Use, Just Personal Runs: Gambhir Criticises MS Dhoni

Mumbai: Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has criticized MS Dhoni for batting at number seven against Rajasthan Royals who beat Chennai Super Kings by 16 runs.

Dhoni came to bat at number seven when the required rate was above 16. Gambhir did not say any words, saying that Dhoni should not have brought himself back.

Apart from this, he said that although Faf du Plessis seemed to be bound, the game was lost too much for the Super Kings. The 39-year-old Dhoni started slowly, but hit three sixes off Tom Curren in the 20th over; those runs in the final over did nothing, but add to Dhoni’s personal tally.

“I was a little surprised, to be honest. MS Dhoni batting at number 7? And sent Gaikwad before him, Sam Curran before him. I don’t mean anything, in fact, you should be leading from the front. And this is not what you call leading from the front. Batting at number seven when you are chasing 217? The game was over. Faf was probably the only warrior, ”Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo.

“Yes, you can talk about MS Dhoni’s last over when he hit three sixes, but it was no use, to be honest. It was all individual runs. See, if someone else had done this, another captain would have batted at number seven, he would have got a lot.

Gambhir said that Dhoni didn’t get criticized for the order to bat because of his huge statue. Furthermore, he mentioned that by coming down, Dhoni is not doing any good for his reputation.

“This is MS Dhoni – may be why people don’t talk about it. When you don’t have Suresh Raina, you make people believe that Sam Curran is better than you. You guys believe that Ruturaj Gaikwad, Karan, Kedar Jadhav, Faf du Plessis, M Vijay, all these people are better than you, ”he said.

In the third match of the tournament, CSK lost to the Royals by 16 runs after Steve Smith’s men posted a mammoth 216 on the board.
