Informed PM Modi About Ukraine Countering Russia, Grateful For Support: Zelenskyy

Mumbai: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday said he informed Indian PM Narendra Modi about “Ukraine countering Russian aggression” after reports said the two leaders spoke on the phone.

Earlier today, the two leaders spoke on phone for around 35 minutes. It was the second telephonic conversation between Modi and Zelenskyy after the conflict began in Ukraine. Also Read: Russia Declares Ceasefire In 4 Ukraine Cities Including Kyiv For Evacuations

“Informed Indian PM Modi about Ukraine countering Russian aggression. India appreciates the assistance to its citizens during the war and Ukraine’s commitment to direct peaceful dialogue at the highest level, Zelensky said.

“Grateful for the support to the Ukrainian people,” he added.

During the phone conversation, PM Modi sought the support of his counterpart in evacuating Indian students stranded in the Sumy city of northeastern Ukraine.

An official statement said Modi expressed deep concern about the ongoing conflict and the resulting humanitarian crisis and reiterated his call for an immediate end to the violence.

It said Modi said India has always stood for peaceful resolution of issues and direct dialogue between the two sides.

The Prime Minister thanked the Ukrainian authorities for helping to evacuate over 20,000 Indian nationals from Ukraine.

“He expressed deep concern for safety and security of Indian students still remaining in Ukraine and emphasised the need for their quick and safe evacuation,” it said.
