Jammu And Kashmir : All Postpaid Mobile Phone Services To Be Restored In Valley Today

Mumbai: In a huge relief for Jammu and Kashmir all postpaid services will resume from today in the valley.

Following the centres’ decision over the abrogation of special status to J&K the mobile services were shut in the state for more than a month, but after 12 pm today it will restore the service.

Jammu and Kashmir’s principal secretary took the decision to resume the service after looking after the situation in the valley.

Rohit Kansal said on Saturday, “All postpaid mobile services will be operational from 12 noon to Monday, Monday, October 14, 2019, regardless of the telecom operator.”

All mobile services will be restored regardless of the operator. However, subscribers will have to wait for some more time for Internet services to be restored.

There are around 66 lakh mobile subscribers in the valley, of which about 40 lakh customers have post-paid facilities.

Partial fixed-line telephony was resumed on 17 August in the valley, and by 4 September all landlines numbering around 50,000 had been declared operational.

In Jammu, the communication system was restored within days of the blockade and even mobile internet was launched in mid-August. However, after its misuse, the facility of the Internet on cellular phones was snuffed out on 18 August.

Kansal said that restrictions on movement have been lifted in 99 percent of the areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

“There has been a gradual removal of the sanctions since 16 August and most of the restrictions were lifted by the first week of September, with the restriction on 8-10 police stations now completely removed.
