Kings XI Punjab Appoint Anil Kumble As Their 5th Head Coach In 5 years

Mumbai: Former India head coach Anil Kumble has been appointed as Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab’s head coach for the upcoming season, replacing Mike Hesson.

He will also take the responsibility of to whom should be picked or dropped from the franchise.

Kumble’s appointment at the helm made him the fifth coach of Kings XI in five seasons. Sanjay Bangar coached the team from 2014 to 2016 before Virender Sehwag took over in 2017.

Brad Hodge and Mike Hewson were the head coaches for the next few seasons respectively and former India head coach Kumble will now take over the reins of the team.

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Anil Kumble will now make a presentation to the team management about his plans for the road on October 19 and will also decide Ashwin’s future with the franchise.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that KXIP captain Ravi Chandran Ashwin has hinted of leaving the franchise as he has removed the team’s name from his Twitter bio.

Kings XI Punjab has also appointed a new support staff for the upcoming season. It has been hired on the mentorship of George Bailey along with Anil Kumble, who has previously played for the franchise and took them to the finals in IPL 2014, named the batting coach according to Cricket Next.

Courtney Walsh has been appointed bowling coach while Jonty Rhodes will take over as the team’s fielding coach. Former Team India spinner Sunil Joshi will be the assistant coach of the team.
