Manmohan Singh Elected Unopposed In Rajya Sabha

Mumbai: The former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. Rajasthan has 10 seats in Rajya Sabha out of which 9 seats are owned by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one is owned by Congress candidate Mr. Singh.

The BJP candidate that had signed for the seat died suddenly leaving behind a vacant seat, taking advantage of one seat, Mr. Manmohan Singh filed the nomination papers for the seat in Rajya Sabha on 13th August 19, 2019. BJP later never raised another candidate to oppose.

The news of Mr. Singh getting elected broke out when the Returning officer and the assembly secretary made an announcement. The Rajasthan’s chief minister too congratulated him through a tweet.

I congratulate former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji on being elected unopposed as a member of Rajyasabha from Rajasthan. Dr. Singh’s election is a matter of pride for the entire state. His vast knowledge and rich experience would benefit the people of Rajasthan a lot.

The former prime minister Ashok Gehlot was declared elected unopposed at 3 pm when the withdrawal for nominations for by-poll ended.

The BJP who has a mass of 73 MLAs in their 200-member assembly chose not to file any candidate against Mr. Singh. That paved the way for an easy win for congress.
