Manoj Tiwary Retires From All Forms Of Cricket

Mumbai: Bengal captain and Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary has announced retirement from all forms of cricket. He stated that the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Bihar will be his last first-class match. He had also announced retirement in August last year but had taken a U-turn. The 38-year-old represented India in 12 ODIs and three T20Is between 2008 and 2015.

After a lengthy and distinguished career spanning more than ten years, Tiwary has decided to retire. The cricket player had declared his retirement last year but changed his mind soon after, prior to this last farewell. During an open news conference at Eden Gardens, Tiwary acknowledged that his first choice was made rashly and expressed his regret to his teammates, family, and supporters for any disappointment this may have caused.

In a press conference held last year at the Media Center of Eden Gardens, Manoj said, “The decision taken by me was a sudden one. I was selfish in taking this decision as this might have hurt my family, teammates and fans.”

Tiwary recently posted on social media, expressing a mixture of appreciation and melancholy, referring to the cricket field as his beloved 22 yards. He expressed his gratitude to his fans for their love and support during his career. In addition, Tiwary invited his supporters to Eden Gardens to see his final innings of cricket when Bengal and Bihar were still playing.

Tiwary posted, “Hi all, So… It’s time for the one last dance! Possibly one last time for a long walk towards my beloved 22 yards. I will miss every bit of it! 🏏 Thanks for cheering and loving me all these years. Would be loving it if you all come down to my favourite #EdenGardens today and tomorrow to cheer for Bengal. 🫡🙌 – A loyal servant of cricket, your Manoj Tiwary  ❤️.”\

Tiwary’s cricket career has been marked by both achievements and difficulties. He hasn’t had many opportunities to play internationally, but he has made a huge impact on Bengal cricket. In First-Class cricket, he has amassed over 10,000 runs at an astounding average of over 48, with 30 centuries and 45 fifties to his credit. Bengal made it to the Ranji Trophy finals in the 2022–2023 season under his direction.

In the Indian Premier League, Manoj Tiwary has played for a number of clubs, including the Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Capitals (formerly the Delhi Daredevils), Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals. As of right now, Tiwary is the West Bengal government’s Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports.
