New Tax System Will Give Belief Of Fairness And Fearlessness To Taxpayers: PM Narendra Modi

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the new tax system is going to become faceless and this will give a belief of fairness and fearlessness to taxpayers.

PM Narendra Modi’s comments came during the launch of platform for “Transparent Taxation – Honoring the Honest” via video conferencing on the 13th August 2020.

“The trend of structural reforms in the country has reached a new phase today. This new 21st-century tax system has been launched today, honoring transparent taxation – honest,” he said.

“The platform has major reforms like Faceless Assessment, Faceless Appeal, and Taxpayers Charter. Faceless Assessment and Taxpayers Charter has come into force from today. Faceless appeal facility will be available to citizens from September 25 on the birth anniversary of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya,” he added.

Modi said, “Now the tax system is becoming useless, but it will give taxpayers confidence of fairness and fearlessness. In the last 6 years, our focus was on unbanked banking, securing the uninsured, funding the moneyless.”

He said, “Today a new journey is beginning in honor of honest people. Honest taxpayers of the country are playing an important role in nation-building. New facilities starting today establish our commitment to minimum government and maximum governance.”

He emphasized the role of tax compliance in nation-building and said that the government was following a policy-driven governance model.

“The emphasis is on making every rule-law, policy-people-centric, and people-friendly. It is the use of the new governance model and the country is getting its results,” he said.

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that this initiative is a milestone in the history of tax administration.

“The Prime Minister’s vision is to empower taxpayers, provide a transparent system, and honor the honest taxpayer. To realize this vision, CBDT has given a framework and put in a place a system in the form of this platform,” she said.

The minister said, “A transparent, efficient, and accountable tax administration is what this platform brings. It also uses technology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. It eases compliance burden, brings a fair, objective, and just system,” the Minister added.
