Next 100-125 Days Are Critical For India: Govt On Possible Third COVID-19 Wave

Mumbai: The government on Friday said that the world is moving towards a third COVID-19 wave, adding that the situation is going from bad to worse.

NITI Aayog Member-Health Dr. VK Paul said that the situation is getting worse in most areas.

“Overall, the world is heading towards a third wave and the WHO warning on the third wave cannot be taken lightly; This is a red flag,” he said.

Stating that Indians need to be responsible and keep the COVID-19 numbers in mind, he said the world is witnessing a third wave of COVID-19 cases.

Urging people to come together and ensure that the third wave does not hit India, Dr Paul expressed concern over the violation of social distancing norms at many places in the country, especially hill stations, and cautioned that irresponsible behavior could cause coronavirus numbers to rise again.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has asked states and union territories to intensify the vaccination campaign as the positivity rate is more than 10 per cent in 47 districts of India.

Urging Indians to wear masks, the Health Ministry expressed concern over the projected decline in the use of face masks with the resumption of activities.

“Analysis shows a projected decline in the use of face masks as we resume activities. We should incorporate the use of face masks in our lives as a new normal,” said the Joint Secretary.
