Pakistan Foreign Minister Mehmood Qureshi Claims, Manmohan Singh Accepted Kartarpur Corridor Opening Invite

Mumbai: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi claimed on Saturday that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had accepted his government’s invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor.

Qureshi also claimed that Manmohan Singh wrote him a letter in which he stated that he would “come as a normal person, not as the chief guest”.

News agency ANI quoted Shah Mahmood Qureshi as saying, “I invited former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh. I am thankful to him, he wrote me a letter and said, ‘I will come as the chief guest, but not as a chief guest but as a normal person’. As the saying goes.

Pakistan’s foreign minister said, “We will welcome him [Manmohan Singh] even if he came as an ordinary person.”

Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan formally invited Manmohan Singh for the inauguration ceremony of the Landmark Kartarpur Corridor to be held in November. The inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor is scheduled for November 9, 2019.

An official spokesperson also clarified on the matter, stating, “The fact was that Manmohan Singh accepted Captain Amarinder’s invitation to join the ‘Jatha’ [delegation] at the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara, on the occasion of the historic 550th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to pay tribute at the Gurdwara “.

The former Prime Minister’s Office also said that it had no idea about the invitation.
