Prime Minister Narendra Modi Launches Twitter Campaign In Support Of Citizenship Amendment Act

CAA-related violence has killed about 20 people across the country

Mumbai: Following the ongoing rumors spreading all over the country about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a Twitter campaign in support of CAA.

In a tweet of PM’s personal website account and Narendra Modi Mobile App, the PM stated that the CAA does not take away the citizenship of any Indian national.

“#IndiaSupportsCAA because CAA is about giving citizenship to persecuted refugees & not about taking anyone’s citizenship away,” the tweet on @narendramodi_in account read.

PM Modi from his own Twitter account tweeted a video of spiritual leader Sadhguru in which he talks about the CAA and highlights misinformation being spread about by vested groups with regard to the amended citizenship law.

“Do hear this lucid explanation of aspects relating to CAA and more by @SadhguruJV. He provides historical context, brilliantly highlights our culture of brotherhood. He also calls out the misinformation by vested interest groups. #IndiaSupportsCAA,” PM Modi tweeted.

The CAA was passed by both houses of parliament earlier this month and triggered violent protests, first in the Northeast and then the rest of the country. CAA-related violence has killed about 20 people across the country.

The CAA provides for the grant of Indian citizenship to people persecuted from Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian communities from three countries – Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. These people should have come to Indian before 2015 after facing religious persecution in the three Muslim-majority countries.
