Sarwan To Coach West Indies Ahead Of The WC

Mumbai: Ramnaresh Sarwan the former batsman of West Indies will be working as a coach for the team for the ICC World Cup 2019.

He is brought up ahead to help the Batsmen in the tri-series in Ireland against Ireland and Bangladesh.

Sarwan has played over for West Indies for a long time. He has played 87 tests, 181 ODIs and 18 T20s before retiring with 11,944 runs overall in all formats.

“I’ve come here to act as a mentor for the team and will assist them in any other technical way where I feel I can help them improve it, and to offer as much help to the head coach Floyd Reifer and his coaching staff,” Sarwan said.

“I know our Batsmen have struggled in rotating the strikes in the past matches and we need to work on it. It is not an overnight fix but can share ideas on how it needs to be,” he added.

Sarwan was a good finisher and also in every aspect and it’s hopeful that he would bring a “wealth of knowledge,” Reifer said.

“Sarwan was a very good player and it would be very beneficial for the team to bring him and have some discussion whilst planning for the World Cup which would be a “wealth of knowledge,” Reifer said.

“We are hoping for a good discussion with a wealth of knowledge about the mindset of how to approach batting first as well as batting last, so we felt of that kind of knowledge was very much important and he fitted out very well in the discussions,” Reifer added.

West Indies will play its first two warm-up matches against South Africa and New Zealand and then head up its campaign against Pakistan on May 31st.
