2019 Was ‘Extremely Grateful’ Enjoyed Batting: Rohit Sharma

Mumbai: White Ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma feels “extremely grateful” for his brilliant performance in 2019, in which he enjoyed and understood his batting with sole regret for not being able to win the prestigious ODI World Cup in England.

It was a great year here for Rohit Sharma as he scored 10 centuries in a year and recorded 2442 runs as an opener across formats.

It was also the year when Rohit rediscovered himself as a Test opener with a fantastic series against South Africa.

“Very grateful for one year. The World Cup victory would have been good, but as a team, throughout the year, whether red ball or white-ball cricket, the team came together really well,” Rohit said.

Kohli’s deputy began the journey to play a challenging Test series against New Zealand, saying “Personally, I have enjoyed batting, but there is no way to stop me. An exciting year is coming.”

With a record five centuries in the World Cup and a double century on ‘Test opening debut’, Rohit is at a happy place right now.

“I understand my batting well. I want to play within my range, knowing the game plan you want to execute is very important.”

He acknowledged that there are challenges ahead but the team is confident of winning the game and staying on top of the table.
