Not A Single Girl Was Born In Six Months At Villages Of Uttarkashi

Mumbai: Not a single village amongst the 16 villages of Uttarkashi gave birth to a girl child in the last six months. The authorities suspect that the health facilities are illegally providing people with gender identifications and abortions. It goes against the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

“The officials have been asked to find out the truth,” CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said. The Cm was shocked with this rate and immediately ordered a probe into this issue.

During the period of six months a total of 65 kids were born amongst which none of one was girls, the state magistrates said. According to Uttarkashi District’s Magistrate Ashish Chauhan, the data revealed that in the 16 villages of Bhatwari, Dunda and Chinyalisaur blocks not a single girl was born in the last six months.

In other 66 villages, the birth rate of a girl child is extremely low in comparison to the number of boys born. If the suspicion turns out to be true, the situation would depict the ineffectiveness of government policies. And the unawareness of people in the region.

Rekha Arya, state women and child welfare minister said that the matters were worse and that an investigation was carried out to find out why led to such a situation.

A group of 82 villages are considered as Red zones. A team of district-level officials has been set up to conduct a survey of these villages and they’ll also find out whether illegal sex determination tests and abortions are being carried out secretly by the health facilities in the area.

The Health Department has been asked to examine the months when pregnant women registered on the reproductive and child health portal and to check the profile of families, Dm added.
