Pakistan To Host Next Asia Cup In 2020, Will India Participate?
Mumbai: Asian Cricket Council has proven Pakistan to host the next Asia Cup 2020, this decision comes in a meeting in Singapore.
However, considering security issues in Pakistan and their current tensions with India, they may have to be compelled to confirm participation in India’s tournaments in the neutral places of the UAE (UAE) by 2020.
UAE has been the home of the Pakistani cricket team, since its terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009, all their major international domestic affiliations were played there. Although Pakistan earned the rights to host the tournament, after consulting with other members of ACC, the final decision on the venue will be taken
A senior BCCI official told PTI, “The decision to play in Pakistan will be called for the government completely. The board will follow whatever decision the Center will follow. We believe that the way in which we hosted the tournament in UAE last year, Pakistan should also organize it at a neutral place.”
According to sources quoted by PTI, “Pakistan told the delegates at the ACC meeting held in Singapore that they will host the Asia Cup at home but the final decision on the venue will be taken in consultation with other members of ACC and keeping in view the current security and political situation.”
The source further said that due to the diplomatic tension between India and Pakistan, BCCI had to host the last edition of the Asia Cup in UAE because Pakistani players could not play in India.
The 2020 edition of Asia Cup will be held in September that year, ahead of the World T20.
